Read Across America Day

Both my husband and I are teachers. We have worked with children across all ages, abilities, socio-economic backgrounds, and ethnicities. We have seen the good and and the ugly of education. But one thing has always been very clear to us, education starts at home.

Now with our own little one, this concept is even more important. We all lead busy lives, our family is no different. But the one thing we know we can do, to give our child a leg up in the world of learning, is read. It has been shown through numerous studies, that children who are read to on a daily basis, develop stronger language skills, and do better in school overall. (here are some facts on children’s literacy)

Today, March 2nd, is Read Across America Day. It’s a celebration of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, but also of the joy of reading to children. In honor of this day, and families reading stories together everywhere, I have created this little guide to enhancing your story time. It blends the educational with the practical, and gives you tool that are easy to implement whenever you choose. You can find it here, on the Boston Moms Blog.
